Love the wildlife photos - lucky to live live so close. What camera/lens?

Thanks George! It's a "bridge camera", the Sony RX10 iv and it's astonishing. 24-600mm. The little birds and the fox were shot at 600mm (equivalent), the other attached images were magnified to varying degrees. Fast focus, super lightweight so easy to carry and hold for long periods of time, as you sometimes must. Very good autofocus. Disadvantages: You can't quickly zoom, the electronics and mechanics won't allow that. So you need to plan for what you're expecting, including focal length, which is a limitation for wildlife if you don't know what you'll see next, something close by or far away. Also it's not rugged, so if you toss it around it won't hold up like a pro camera and body, and probably don't want it exposed to heavy rain. Otoh, I could buy several of these for the price of my older Canon gear. It's also got a flip-out display on the back, and while I don't use that often, I used it for the turtle so I could put the camera on the ground but not have to do an army crawl. In the same way I've got images of frogs and snakes. I'm not sure I want to be so immobile as I'd be lying on the ground, face to face with a snake!

Thank you! And I'd love to see the wildlife where you live as well. No bears are in this little area, although there is a healthy population in the hills and mountains nearby. No wolves anywhere near where we live though.

Thank you Susanne! I'd been looking for fox for a while. I've seen them in the region, but not from this trail until this week. I was lucky to finally spot them after just about giving up, and doubly-lucky to have that little dusting of snow. We only had one day of even a dusting last winter.

Thank you for promoting the concept of ditching the phone and embracing nature! I am currently cultivating my own ecological reserve at the Runamuk Acres Conservation Farm here in Maine. Working to provide a place where the public can come to connect with their own wild side. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you too, Samantha. I've also decided to bring a trash bag with me every day. And meeting another person with similar inclinations, I learned of an amazing story that I'll write pretty soon. It's excellent to meet so many people who care, and you're just the latest!
