The lyrics to Fixing a Hole came to me in a flood last night.
“I’m fixing a hole where the rain gets in, and stops my mind from wandering, where it will go.” - John Lennon / Paul McCartney
It happened as I thought about why I buy and sell art in the first place (as distinct from why I make art). I thought about it because, as you’ll see below, I have a new set of Limited-Edition Prints for sale.
Fixing a hole. And freeing our minds.
Having the right art in view brightens my mood and my cognition, both. There are clinical1 and non-clinical research studies which have shown this to be true for people in general. Probably for you, too. It’s easy to forget this, but earlier this month I was reminded specifically.
Why these images?
My mood and cognition were jolted directly a few weeks ago. One of the images I’m offering, Song Sung Blue, had been on my wall for a while. But I’ve just donated it to a charity for an art auction, and while I have NO regrets about helping out a worthy cause (Loudoun Cares), now it’s gone. And so is the magic. While it was there it really helped me feel soothed, centered, and ready to go. I’ve always liked the image, but it became something more important when I put it on the wall, and in my constant view. It changed everything. Missing it also changed everything. Of course I have many ways to fill the space, and I will. But the impact of the change was startling, despite my experience in such things.
I want to be clear, I don’t exclusively want my work everywhere, I prefer to enjoy other artists’ work, too. But that experience, both putting it up and taking it down, is what prompted me to introduce Song Sung Blue and three others from the set as my next series of Limited-Edition Prints.
Before I introduce them, here are a few more lyrics from the same classic song.
I'm painting a room in a colorful way. And when my mind is wandering, there I will go.
I'm taking the time for a number of things that weren't important yesterday. And I still go
If I could encourage you to do anything in life, I’d encourage you to do both. Paint your rooms in a colorful way. And take the time for important things. Whether you’re painting with my art or something else.
And now, the work.
Seas and Skies
Announcing my newest Limited-Edition Series of Prints, Seas and Skies. I’m only offering five of each print, and based on history from my other Limited-Editions, this set will sell out. These pieces may not be for you. But if they are, I strongly recommend acting quickly. I’ll do my best to get things shipped in time for the holidays if your order would be a gift.
Here’s the link, and here are the four. Click an image to get a closer look.
If you go to the site you can also see various mock-ups of home environments for them, like this one, and also get a short statement about what was happening when the piece was made.
If you’ve got any questions please feel free to DM me, ask below, or go to my website for further contact information, email and cell. Armed with that information, you could also connect in an old-fashioned way. We could even <gasp> talk on the phone. Crazy, I know.
I hope you have a great holiday season. We are just about there already!
And remember. Art can improve your mood and your mind, whether it’s my art or someone else’s. Take care of yourself and others, please.
Until next time,
