I’d never seen it until the other day, even though it’s a mere 20 minutes from my house. It involves two things I love. Basketball and good people.
There’s a thing called, perhaps audaciously, The Basketball League (TBL). You’ve likely never seen it and maybe never heard of it, but they’re one of the few professional hoops leagues in the country. And hoop they do; I’m impressed.
The entertainment would be worth the price of admission even if TBL was about nothing but basketball. But the goals of TBL go far beyond competitive ball, greatly adding to their appeal.
In a future edition of Glimpses and Visions, after I spend some time with the owners of the Virginia Valley Vipers, I’ll tell you their stories. I think it will be compelling. For now I’ll just say that they’re living their mission statement:
Our Mission is to strengthen our community through positive, family-friendly entertainment and provide athletes with the financial opportunity to continue their passion while giving back to the community.
And for now I’ll let the images speak in two sections, first the game and then community.
Action
They are skilled, competitive, and having a great time.
A Joyous Space
For the organization and the community.

What a wonderful surprise this was. I’ll definitely be back. Also a surprise.
I’ve been an NBA fan first, along with my alma mater, the UCSB Gauchos. Any time I feel like I can afford the time I usually watch the NBA, with very best players and teams in the world. It’s not that I don’t also enjoy other levels of play, I just can’t fit everything into my life, so WNBA, NCAA, etc. just don’t make the cut.
But I’ll be back here again. Because when you put it all together, with the skill of the players, the quality on the floor, the community, the joy, the intentions of the league and the team, this experience feels like it’s bigger than the game.
Until next time,

This is GREAT!
More overall spirit than the professionals.
Well done. You've definitely captured the spirit and camaraderie of the players and coaches. Looks like a great time.
