About Visual Intimacy
How often do you sit across from somebody, someone you already know, and you’re still not there with them? Not present, not looking into their eyes, etc. (what color are those eyes, anyway?)
I have battled this throughout my life. Often I’m so busy thinking about what I want to say, or perhaps lost in other thoughts, that I’m not there with the other person. Even though I’m just a few physical feet away.
Which is funny, or maybe sad, because I very much enjoy connecting with others. I just don’t always do it.
When I’m using a camera, though, I’m more intentional about what I’m doing. The kind of intimacy which is available through still images can be special. When the right moment is captured, it lingers because it’s still. And in a world where everything seems to be constantly in motion, that stillness, that quiet connection, seems particularly special.
Intimate moments can be experienced with animals of all varieties.
And of course, with people. Posed though they may be, intimate connections can be made which feel like they’ll last forever.
Here’s to the magic we can create. And to intimate connections.
Until next time,
